PWHL Draft
The Kraken have competition next season. The Seattle entry to the Professional Women’s Hockey League is gearing up for its inaugural run.
The Seattle club, to be named, joined the new Vancouver team, to be named, along with the six existing PWHL organizations in the 2025 PWHL draft on Tuesday.
Here’s a quickie look at the six players, three Canadian and three American, that the Seattle franchise selected.
1) With the eighth and final pick of the 1st-round, Seattle took Jenna Buglioni out of Ohio State University. The Port Moody, BC native played her teenage hockey in Vancouver before heading to Columbus. She was OSU’s captain. She’s a two-time national champion who scored 70 goals and recorded 94 assists in her career and holds the school record for game winning goals.
2) Seattle has its goalie. It’s Hannah Murphy out of Colgate University. She just happens to be the college teammate of the PWHL’s 1st-overall pick Kristýna Kaltounková from Czechia, who was picked by the New York Sirens.
3) Lily Delianedis out of Cornell University was selected late in the 3rd-round. The American center had 22 points in 35 games her senior season and led the program in face-off wins.
4) The second consecutive Minnesotan selected by the Seattle franchise, Jada Habisch led the University of Connecticut in scoring with 16 goals. She served as the Huskies captain.
5) Lyndie Lobdell was an assistant captain of the Penn State University women’s hockey team. She played defense and was a beloved fixture in the program. She tallied 81 points from the blueline during her 160 game career.
6) Olivia Wallin is a Canadian who attended and played at the University of Minnesota -Duluth. She put up 24 points in 39 games in her final season on campus. She was a teammate of Lobdell at PSU before transferring after her junior year. She led all of Division-1 in goals for freshman back in 2020-’21.
The Seattle club will definitely not lack leadership. All are stalwarts.
The PWHL has not yet set it’s schedule for next season.
