This following news slipped under the radar as we reported about two new acquisitions by the Kraken this weekend, coming on the tail end of introducing a new coaching staff.
Those headlines involved Mason Marchment, Joe Veleno, and head coach Lane Lambert’s new assistants, just in case you’re catching up as well.
The other bit involves reliable bottom pair/extra Seattle defenseman Cale Fleury.
On Friday the team announced that they inked the 26-year-old righty to a two-year, one-way contract extension. That means he’ll make close to $900,000 whether he’s playing in the NHL or the American Hockey League.
Last season Fleury played 14 games for the Kraken and spent the rest of his time as the alternate captain in Coachella Valley with the AHL Firebirds.
“Cale’s been an important player in our organization,” Kraken GM Jason Botterill stated in a news release. “He’s developed into a steady and reliable defenseman, and we’re happy to have him under contract for the next two years.”
Fleury, a Western Hockey League alum’, has played 77 NHL games, 41 of them with the Montreal Canadiens, the team that drafted him in the 3rd-round in 2017.
He scored his lone NHL goal for the Habs back in 2020.
