The Kraken can look forward to watching the Western Hockey League final starting this weekend, featuring their 2024 1st-round NHL Draft pick Berkly Catton of the western conference champion Spokane Chiefs. He’s second in WHL playoff scoring with 36 points, one behind teammate Andrew Cristall, a Washington Capitals prospect.
Catton finished the regular season with 109 points, second on the team to Cristall’s WHL leading 132 points. Both of them played 57 games, with Cristall starting the season with the Kelowna Rockets.
“We have a handful of young prospects who have accelerated their timeline this season,” Kraken Director of Player Development Jeff Tambellini told SHI. “Berkly Catton is one of them.”
The Chiefs face a major challenge starting Friday night in Alberta.
17-year-old phenom Gavin McKenna (35 points) leads an otherwise more veteran opponent in the Medicine Hat Tigers from the league’s eastern conference. Both the Tigers and the Chiefs swept their opponents in the conference finals, the first time that’s happened in WHL history.
The series is set up with a 2-3-2 travel arrangement. The middle three games in Spokane take place on Tuesday (May 13th), Wednesday, and Friday of next week.
TSN in Canada will carry all of the games live. Americans without access can view online on the Victory+ app.
