Seattle Joins Vancouver In PWHL

PWHL Expansion

The Professional Women’s Hockey League officially announced Seattle as the latest addition to what will be an eight-team circuit. Earlier this month, Vancouver became the league’s 7th club.

Both will begin play for the 2025-’26 season.

The Seattle announcement and press conference took place at Climate Pledge Arena (CPA) on Wednesday morning.

The current PWHL regular season wraps up this Saturday, May 3rd. The 1st place Montreal Victoire and the 2nd place Toronto Sceptres have locked up playoff spots with three other teams battling for the final two spots.

It appears the Boston Fleet and the Ottawa Charge will prevail ahead of the Minnesota Frost. The New York Sirens have already been eliminated.

“On behalf of the Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena, I am proud to welcome the PWHL to Seattle,” Kraken owner Samantha Holloway stated. “Seattle is an incredible sports city and we’ve seen firsthand the passion for the women’s game, at both the USA vs. Canada “Rivalry Series” game and the PWHL “Takeover Tour.”

The “Takeover Tour” game in January featuring Boston and Montreal drew close to 13,000 fans to CPA.
