Feisty Fun; Kraken Fall To Flames 4-3 In OT

Flames 4, Kraken 3 – Overtime

At the end of the night, the team that really needed to win, did so. The Flames came from behind in the 3rd period, took a lead, only to relinquish it, only to turn around and win in OT. Nazem Kadri finished his big two-goal night with the game winner.

Calgary kept its playoff hopes alive in the western conference, while non-playoff Seattle finished its road trip 1-and-3.

The Kraken seemed like the more desperate team through the first forty minutes. They played relaxed, but with intensity, gaining the Calgary zone with relative ease at times. Aside from taking a 2-1 lead, Seattle hit the post three times and the cross bar once through the first 40 minutes.

Calgary stuck with it, turning up the intensity in the 3rd period. Down a goal, Kadri tied the game 13-minutes deep on the power play, then watched his teammate Rasmus Andersson score 2:07 later to put their team up 3-2.

Kraken captain Jordan Eberle said “not so fast”. He poked home the tying goal with the extra attacker on the ice and 90 seconds to play.

That set up Kadri’s game winner at 3:58 of the extra session with a forehand breakaway deke against Joey Daccord.

The goal came immediately after Flames goalie Dustin Wolf stopped a golden point blank chance by Seattle D-man Vince Dunn at the other end.

The Flames have won four games in a row and hopped one point ahead of the Vancouver Canucks. Both teams are on the outside looking in, but Calgary moved to within four points of the St. Louis Blues in the final playoff spot with three games-in-hand.
