Kraken Storm Back, Beat Habs in OT 5-4

The Seattle Kraken pulled off a 3rd period comeback on Wednesday night at Climate Pledge Arena, overcoming a 4-2 deficit to win 5-4 in overtime against the Montreal Canadiens.

The game included a number of milestones.

Seattle defenseman Brandon Montour officially scored just four seconds into OT, setting the NHL record for fastest goal ever to start a regular season overtime period.

Earlier, rookie call up Jani Nyman played in his first NHL game and scored his first NHL goal. The Finnish sniper is known for his blistering shot and he put it to good use in the 3rd period, pulling the Kraken to within a goal of the Habs on the power play.

The one-timer from the slot off a feed from Jordan Eberle at the 10:53 mark of the 3rd period came in front of Nyman’s parents. They jumped up and celebrated with the rest of the Seattle faithful.

Seattle center Matty Beniers tipped in the tying goal on the power play with just 2:12 remaining in regulation time.

The Seattle win served as a spoiler against a Canadiens team fighting for its life in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Habs beat the Canucks in Vancouver on Tuesday night.
