Red Wings 5, Kraken 4
The Red Wings came in with a record of 14-4-and-1 since head coach Todd McLellan took over, which included a six-game win streak. It continued.
Detroit picked up where it’s been leaving off.
Lucas Raymond, after getting knocked down moments before in the right wing circle, deflected home a Dylan Larkin shot that was headed for the right goal post. The Winged Wheel was up 1-0 at the 3:36 mark.
Six minutes later the Kraken gained some momentum following a successful penalty kill. On the even strength shift that followed, Matty Beniers ripped a one-timer from the low slot that beat Detroit goalie Cam Talbot clean. The goal came off a beautiful feed from the left wing corner by Kaapo Kakko.
For much of the period the Red Wings played a dump-and-chase game, trying to establish a forecheck. Not much was happening until Chandler Stephenson tripped Simon Edvinsson along the end boards and Detroit went on its second power play.
Off a Larkin face-off win and an assist to Alex DeBrincat, D-man Moritz Seider picked a corner from the very high slot to give the visitors its second lead of the game.
It took Seattle just 6:29 into the 2nd period to tie it back up. Shane Wright extended his point streak to six games with his 10th goal of the season, this one off the rush from the right wing circle with a snipe top shelf, short side.
The rush came off a Detroit turnover at the opposite blueline when Kraken defenseman Cale Fleury dumped Michael Rasmussen with a knee-to-knee hit. Detroit head coach McLelland was none-too-happy. The odd man rush going the other way ensued.
Seattle had two goals with just seven shots on goal.
