Kraken Crunch
What would be the reason for a team lacking desperation and consistency? Is it the internal belief that the roster isn’t good enough and there’s not a lot of hope? Are there simply too many passengers collecting paychecks? Those would be two pretty good reasons.
Is this the Kraken? Those hypotheticals don’t necessarily apply to the sea monster, but at some point in the not-so-distant-future we’re going to figure it out.
“You have to take a look at the scenario, the setting and where we’re at in the season and I think that desperation has gotta creep into our game on a nightly basis,” head coach Dan Bylsma said after his club was shut out by the Ottawa Senators 3-0 on Tuesday night. “And when it’s not, it’s evident.”
Unacceptable.
There’s also the glass half-full / half-empty application. The Kraken are only four points out of a playoff spot, but the teams they are chasing have games-in-hand, and more importantly, have much deeper rosters.
Does one see Seattle hopping over the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, and/or Vancouver Canucks. The only thing keeping the Kraken in this race is the fact that the San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators are pathetic non-factors in the Western Conference. And Seattle lost to the first two in three consecutive games at the end of November.
Those six points lost could end up being the difference in the end. Frittered away by a team lacking consistency and desperation.
This isn’t the theme one wants reoccurring.
