Kraken Loss
The Lightning forecheck was the key factor in Tampa’s 3-1 victory over Seattle on Saturday night. The pressure resulted in a number of Kraken turnovers, Lightning scoring chances and their power play opportunities.
In the 3rd period Tampa clicked on its final man advantage, finishing 1-for-3 on the night, which is pretty much their very impressive, season-long percentage. At that point the game was over.
Seattle created most of its offensive momentum in the first seven minutes of the game, and for about seven more minutes in the 3rd-period. That equals 14 minutes; clearly not enough.
Brandon Montour opened the scoring for Seattle at 4:24 of the 1st period.
Brandon Hagel tied the game with a tip-in four minutes later.
Brayden Point trickled a shot off a rebound through Seattle goalie Philipp Grubauer for the game winner at 13:21 of the 2nd period. It would probably be considered soft.
The power play capper came from Jake Guentzel was batted home at 4:03 of the 3rd.
A great chance for Seattle to get back into the game came with 6:11 remaining, when Bolts D-man Darren Raddysh went off for tripping. Nothing doing, no shots.
Hagel added an empty-netter and then later rookie D-man Declan Carlile scored his 1st NHL goal in just his 2nd game.
