Kraken Saturday
The Senators aren’t exactly a defensive power house, but they played an effective road game at home, particularly as they sat on a 2-0 lead in the third period. They added an empty netter.
Ottawa held Seattle to just five even strength shots through the first two periods and the Senators penalty kill handled the Kraken power play all four times. Luck played a small part, with Seattle shooters hitting iron twice.
Bottom line, all things considered, the Kraken leave Canada’s capital without a point in the standings and they head to Boston for a matinee on Sunday. Not an easy task as the Bruins appear to be getting their you-know-what together.
Saturday was an important start for Seattle goalie Philipp Grubauer. The first goal came on a scramble-puck he failed to cover. It was loose when it appeared to be poked free — the goal was originally waved off for potential goalie interference — and the second tally involved an unfortunate deflection in front. His record falls to 1-and-4 on the season.
Regardless, Massachusetts native Joey Daccord will get the start in his home town on Sunday.
Seattle defenseman Brandon Montour returned to the line-up after missing one game for the birth of his daughter and played 22:22 with 4 shots, 2 blocked shots, and 2 hits.
Senators goalie Anton Forsberg shut out Seattle in Ottawa for the 2nd straight season.
