Kraken, Berkly Catton

Kraken Draft Review; Top Pick Signed And Sealed

The Seattle Kraken and General Manager Ron Francis wasted little time taking care of business with 1st-round, 8th-overall 2024 NHL Draft choice Berkly Catton.

Exactly one week after the Spokane Chiefs center was selected, he was signed. Catton inked a three-year entry-level deal worth $975,000 per season. He won’t see that money for awhile as he’ll be sent back across the state to try and dominate the Western Hockey League as an 18-year-old turning 19 in January.

Unless of course he surprises everyone at Seattle’s September training camp.

Since then the Kraken have signed one other 2024 draft pick, Finnish goaltender Kim Saarinen, who turns 18 in three days. The 3rd-rounder’s (88th-overall) entry-level deal will be worth $872,500 per season. He’ll be playing professionally in Finland next season.

Last year’s Seattle 1st-rounder, Eduard Sale, a Czech winger, signed about two weeks after the draft and went on to play this past season in the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts and the Kitchener Rangers. He compiled a grand total of 38 points over 49 OHL games.

Next up: Re-sign 2021 1st-rounder and current Kraken, Matty Beniers. More on him shortly.
