Kraken AHL All-Star

Seattle Kraken top prospect Ryker Evans, who’s already played 13 NHL games this season, represented the Coachella Valley Firebirds at the American Hockey League All-Star Challenge on Monday and helped the Pacific Division win the event, finishing with a 3-2 shoot-out victory over the Atlantic Division in the final.

The defenseman registered one assist and three shots-on-goal over the course of his squad’s four games.

In 3-on-3 games featuring five-minute halves, each of the four divisions played one another once in the round robin. The two with the best records played one another in the final.

Pacific Division forward Arshdeep Bains of the Vancouver Canucks affiliate in Abbotsford, BC won Most Valuable Player honors with two goals and three assists.

Evans has tallied 14 points in 25 AHL games this season, a similar pace to last season when he finished with 44. He’s added four assists in 13 games at the NHL level.

Wild Cards

The Calgary Flames are the only team in action tonight from the pack of seven looking for a Western Conference wild card spot. The Flames are three points behind the Kraken with a game in hand. Seattle sits two points behind the 2nd wild card St. Louis Blues and four points behind the 1st wild card Los Angeles Kings.

Calgary visiting the Boston Bruins is one of eight NHL games on the calendar Tuesday.

The top one to watch would be the Edmonton Oilers and their 16-game winning streak visiting the Vegas Golden Knights. With a victory the Oilers wouls tie the NHL record for consecutive wins, presently held by the 1992-’93 Pittsburgh Penguins.

Current Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet was a member of that Penguins team.

“I hate it when guys say they want people to break their records … I don’t want them to break our record,” Tocchet told us Friday. “But it is impressive. That team is playing lights out.”

Whether on a charter flight to Boston or not after the Canucks game Tuesday night at the Carolina Hurricanes, Tocchet should be able to follow the progress of the Oilers 10 pm eastern start.
