Kraken Game Day: Dallas Stars – Seattle Rematch

In an NHL rematch of Saturday night’s affair won by the Stars 4-3 in overtime, it’ll be Jake Oettinger in goal for the Dallas Stars against Martin Jones for the Seattle Kraken.

‘Jonesy’ gets the nod after five straight starts for Philipp Grubauer.

For the second straight game at Climate Pledge Arena, the Kraken failed to hold on to a late lead. Veteran forward Joe Pavelski tied the game with an extra attacker on the ice with 70 seconds remaining and Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen won it in OT.

“Not much changes, obviously there’s a couple of little details we want to adjust, things we can do better, but it’s kind of like the same game plan,” Kraken forward Alexander Wennberg said Monday morning. “We focus on what we can do to adjust, but it comes down to our effort for sure.”

“We didn’t spend a lot of time in the offensive zone,” Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol said. “That’s one of the things we’ve got to do a little bit more of, I mean we can defend this team and defend hard, but if you give them too many opportunities, they’re going to make plays. We have to do a better job getting through the neutral zone and being connected and finding a little more offensive zone time.”

Kraken Foe Dallas

The Dallas Stars are in the midst of a strenuous road trip that sees them playing three games in four nights — they play in Vancouver Tuesday night — and six games in ten nights. They played Thursday in Buffalo against the Sabres before flying out west to play these two against the Kraken.

Dallas head coach Pete DeBoer took a few minutes to have a candid chat with us Monday morning. He’s taken two different NHL teams to the Stanley Cup Final, the New Jersey Devils in 2012 and the San Jose Sharks in 2016, and been to three other conference finals.

With the addition of Max Domi at the trade deadline and Evgenii Dadonov ahead of that, the Stars solidified the top nine forward group. Star center Tyler Seguin is week to week with a sliced leg injury but is expected back ahead of the playoffs.

Puck drop in Seattle between the Stars and Kraken is a little after 7 pm pacific.
