The Climate Pledge Arena was alive with extra energy and a fair contingent of Boston Bruins fans for what turned out to be a very entertaining match vs the Kraken. The Bruins would prevail 6-5 in a remarkably intense night of hockey to finish the season series tied 1-1.
Goaltenders: Jeremy Swayman for the Bruins; Philip Grubauer for the Kraken.
What an wild heavyweight bout! The Kraken won’t soon forget they had a 5-4 lead with 4:10 remaining in the hockey game.
Kraken Goal Scorers:
1st Period
1-0 Kraken – Even Strength – Matty Beniers (19) from Jared McCann and Vince Dunn, :40
On a bad pinch by Bruins D-man Charlie McAvoy, Beniers cruised ahead on a 3-on-1 and sniped high glove.
2nd Period
2-1 Kraken – Even Strength – Vince Dunn (10) from Alexander Wennberg, 1:17
Dunn’s point shot glanced off a Bruins stick on the way to the net and eluded Swayman’s glove.
3-3 Tied – Even Strength – Jamie Oleksiak (7) from Morgan Geekie and Jesper Froden, 9:47
Oleksiak jumped into the slot and ripped home a shot with plenty of time to work with.
4-4 Tied – Power Play – Yanni Gourde (9) from Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberle, 18:53
On the doorstep at the right post, Gourde had his shot deflect in off of McAvoy’s stick.
3rd Period
5-4 Kraken – Even Strength (4-on-4) – Jaden Schwartz (13) from Will Borgen and Jamie Oleksiak, 15:50
Cutting to the net, Schwartz re-directs home a slap-pass from Borgen at the point.
— Utter madness. Top notch NHL entertainment in the heart of Seattle.
— Seattle outshot the Bruins 41-33. Power plays: Boston 0-for-1, Seattle 1-for-4 and they gave up a shortie.
— Seattle hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm Pacific.
Kraken 3 Stars:
1) Yanni Gourde – Never let’s up. In the Bruins faces all night long. Scored the tying 4-4 goal.
2) Matty Beniers – Goal and an assist against his hometown team and tenacious on the forecheck.
3) Philipp Grubauer – Made 27 saves against the top team, and one of the more relentless in the NHL.
